What a blocked drain usually costs
Most standard blockages across Moreton Bay clear for between $150 and $400. If tree roots are involved, or the plumber needs a CCTV camera to find the problem, expect $350 to $900 for the camera inspection and jet blasting together. A collapsed or root-broken pipe that needs relining is a bigger job, usually $3,000 and up. The full cost guide breaks down every scenario.
Why Moreton Bay drains block
The region is really three places, and each one blocks differently. On the Redcliffe peninsula, from Clontarf and Woody Point through Margate to Scarborough, the housing is old enough that plenty of homes still run jointed clay sewer lines, and the big established figs and street trees have found the joints. Through the growth corridor at North Lakes, Mango Hill, Griffin and Burpengary East, the pipe is new PVC and the blockages are made in the kitchen and bathroom, with cooking fat and wet wipes doing most of the damage. Out west at Samford Valley, Dayboro, Wamuran and D'Aguilar, many properties are not on a reticulated sewer at all and run a septic tank or a home treatment plant, which fails in its own ways.
Two things cut across all of it. A lot of the region is flat and low, from Clontarf and Deception Bay to Beachmere and the Caboolture river flats, so drains have very little fall and sediment settles instead of flushing away. And near the water, at Bribie Island, Woorim and along the bay, sandy soil washes into stormwater pits and silts the lines that carry a summer storm.
The result is the same everywhere: slow drains, gurgling toilets, and water where it should not be. A QBCC-licensed drain plumber clears the blockage, then tells you honestly whether it was a one-off or whether the pipe itself needs attention.
