Banksia Beach is the newer end of Bribie Island, taking in the Pacific Harbour canal estate, the golf course and a lot of homes built from the 1990s onward with pontoons, pools and generous landscaping. The pipework is much younger than Bongaree's, which changes the problems rather than removing them. Moreton Bay Blocked Drains is a local referral service that connects Banksia Beach residents with QBCC-licensed local drain plumbers we work with.
Why Banksia Beach drains block
Newer PVC does not fail at the joints, so household waste does most of the work here. Fat from the kitchen sets on the pipe wall, wipes catch at bends in the long runs that large homes have, and hair and soap narrow the bathroom branches.
Canal frontage sets the stormwater pattern. Water from the block has to reach an outlet, often across a long run and through a pit near the revetment wall, and a blockage at the outlet end backs water up through the whole system. The first sign is usually a wet lawn rather than a slow drain indoors.
Pools and gardens finish it. Backwash lines, pool surrounds and heavily mulched beds all change where water goes, and mulch and clippings washing into a pit are a common cause of a slow stormwater line on these blocks.
What clearing a blocked drain involves
The licensed drain plumbers we work with clear the blockage, then use a CCTV drain camera if it has happened before, because a repeat in newer pipe usually means a sag or something lodged at a bend. Jet blasting strips grease and flushes sand. Pooling after rain is a blocked stormwater job.
A standard clear typically costs $150 to $400. A camera inspection runs $249 to $600, or $350 to $900 combined with jetting. Root clearing typically costs $250 to $600. Relining typically costs $3,000 to $8,000 or more. Every job is quoted first.
Frequently asked questions
Water pools near the canal wall after rain. What causes that?
Usually a silted or blocked stormwater line between the house and the outlet. Jetting flushes it and a camera checks the condition of the pipe near the wall.
Can a pool filter block a drain?
Sand carryover from a filter can settle in a flat section of the backwash or stormwater line over time. It is worth having checked while a plumber is on site.
Our home is on a body corporate estate. Does that change anything?
It can change who is responsible for lines outside your lot boundary. Check the plan and let the manager know, then a camera with a locator establishes exactly where the fault sits.
