Bongaree is the oldest settlement on Bribie Island, sitting on the Pumicestone Passage side where the bridge lands. The housing runs from 1950s and 60s beach shacks and lowset brick through to newer units and townhouses, with a large retired population and a lot of properties that are quiet for part of the year. Moreton Bay Blocked Drains is a local referral service that connects Bongaree residents with QBCC-licensed local drain plumbers we work with.
Why Bongaree drains block
Sand is the defining local condition. The whole island is sand, and fine material washes into stormwater pits and settles in flat pipe runs. The ground is also very flat, so there is little fall to carry it away, and lines silt steadily.
Age accounts for the rest on the sewer side. Homes connected decades ago often run jointed pipe that has been in sandy, shifting ground for a long time, and the mature pines, figs and melaleucas around the older streets are close enough to take advantage.
Seasonal occupancy adds a quieter factor. Holiday houses and part-time residences have fixtures that sit unused for weeks, traps that dry out, and lines that get no regular flushing, so sediment settles where it falls.
What clearing a blocked drain involves
The licensed drain plumbers we work with clear the line, then use a CCTV drain camera where the problem repeats or the pipe is old. Jet blasting is the right tool for sand and silt because it flushes the material out rather than pushing a hole through it.
A standard clear typically costs $150 to $400. A camera inspection runs $249 to $600, or $350 to $900 combined with jetting. Root clearing typically costs $250 to $600. Relining typically costs $3,000 to $8,000 or more. Every job is quoted first.
Frequently asked questions
Does sandy ground move pipes?
It can settle unevenly, which is enough to open a joint or create a sag in a long run. A camera inspection shows whether the line is sitting true.
Our unit block has a shared line. Who deals with it?
Common property drainage is normally the body corporate's responsibility. Tell the manager as well as requesting a quote, so the work is authorised properly.
We only use the house part of the year. Any advice?
Run every tap and flush every toilet when you arrive, to refill the traps and move anything that has settled. Mention long vacancies when you request a quote, because it changes what the plumber looks for.
